Visit Peru with Belmond and you quickly learn to expect the extraordinary. If the breathtaking landscapes, dizzying altitudes and wonderful people weren’t enough, the attention to detail and thoughtful service at every moment make it a trip to remember. From serving Coca tea (it helps with the altitude) on arrival at Cusco airport to the Llama-shaped water bottles on the Andean Explorer, nothing gets overlooked.
With 6 luxury hotels and 2 luxury trains in their Peruvian portfolio, Belmond will make sure you experience all the adventure, without compromising your comfort.
Here are some of our highlights:
You can take four different one or two-night journeys on the Andean Explorer sleeper train between Cusco and Arequipa. This is truly one of the most magical experiences you can have in Peru. With frequent stops, window-gazing from the observation car, and live music onboard in the evening – you will not be bored. The train even stops at night to ensure all aboard enjoy a restful sleep.
Another must is the Hiram Bingham train – named for the explorer who brought Machu Picchu to the world’s attention in 1922. The train weaves its way to Machu Picchu from Cusco as delicious food and free-flowing Peruvian wines are served.
Machu Picchu truly has to be seen to be believed, and observing the sunset and sunrise over the citadel is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Be sure to add an overnight at the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge as part of your itinerary.
At this point in your journey, you can retreat to reflect on all that you’ve seen in the quiet serenity of Colca Canyon at Belmond Las Casitas. Each Casita (bungalow) is totally private, with its own plunge pool and outdoor shower. This is the perfect place to explore the Andes on horseback.
