Embrace Exotic India
This 13-day ‘Exotic India’ tour through Northern India introduces you to Rajasthan, the quintessential land of maharajas, imperial forts, decorated palaces and painted elephants.
Starting from India’s historic capital, Delhi, this journey for solo travellers continues to Agra to catch the sunrise over the Taj Mahal. Search for elusive Bengal tigers in Ranthambore and marvel at the majestic forts and grand palaces of princely Rajasthan.
In Jaipur, the ‘Pink City’, discover Rajasthan’s capital: the seat of kings crowned with no less than 6 palaces. Visit the commanding Amber Fort and City Palace with your group. Be sure to ask your guide to explain the significance of the nineteen astronomical instruments in the palace garden, dating from 1724. In the afternoon, lose yourself in the bargain-filled bazaars of the city.
The tour also takes you to Rajasthan’s Blue City – Jodphur, where the imposing 15th Century Mehrangarh fort overlooks blue Brahmin homes and bustling markets from its rocky outcrop.
See India’s “mini Varanasi” in Pushkar, a holy site and one of the 5 pilgrimages Hindus might make in a lifetime. Legend has it, a bird carrying the water of immortality dropped some in the lake here.
End your tour in Udaipur, perhaps Rajhastan’s most glamorous city, with a sunset cruise on the lake. Among many other stunning sights, Udaipur is famous for its floating hotel – the Jagmandir – one of the shooting locations for the 1983 James Bond film Octopussy.
Any trip to India, especially your first, can feel like an intense whirlwind of sights, smells and experiences. Embracing India requires a lot of patience and a good sense of humour, which you will surely find amongst your fellow travellers on your intimate group tour.

For art and history fans, this 7-day ‘Majestic Russia’ tour takes in a small but splendid corner of the world’s largest country: Russia.
From the imperial palaces of St Petersburg to Red Square and the Kremlin in Moscow, join fellow solo travellers on a 7-day tour visiting some of Russia’s most famous attractions. Both cities are renowned for their world-class museums and grand architecture, and each has left behind their own cultural legacies.
Starting your tour in St Petersburg, often dubbed “the Paris of the East”, history, culture and architecture will astonish you at every turn. Fyodor Dostoyevsky set Crime and Punishment here, Leo Tolstoy used the city as a backdrop for much of War and Peace. And it was here in St Petersburg in October 1917 that Vladimir Lenin and the Bolsheviks seized power in the city, beginning 8 decades of communist rule.
The tour takes in the Winter Palace built by Catherine the Great, now home to the world’s largest art museum, – The Hermitage. Plus you’ll get to see Catherine Palace in Pushkin, the preferred summer residence of the Russian Tsars. A masterpiece of Russian baroque, the palace is famous for its Amber Room – often dubbed the 8th wonder of the world.
Next, on to Moscow, where the iconic onion-shaped domes of St Basil’s Cathedral come to life before you in Red Square. Even the metro system is a work of unparalleled grandeur. Built in the 1930s, some of the stations are as ornate as the cathedrals. As well as the sights, a highlight of the tour include a visit to the Eliseevsky food store in Moscow to sample traditional Russian delicacies.
The Iron Curtain may be gone but a lacy curtain of mystery still remains when it comes to Russia. For those who’ve always been curious about visiting the country, but are nervous about independent solo travel, this Cox & King’s itinerary is sure to delight. Plus, you’ll come away with more shared memories (and photographs!) of your adventure than if you were to travel alone.
Explore fairytale Transylvania on this fast-paced, 8-day ‘Romanian Explorer’ tour and take in a wealth of cultural attractions. Elegant palaces, enduring fortified churches, colourful craftsmen towns and a visit to a bear sanctuary are all set against the magnificent backdrop of the Carpathian mountains.
Most famous for Bram Stoker’s gothic novel ‘Dracula’, Transylvania – “the land beyond the forests” – is indeed a real place. The region occupies about ⅓ of all Romania, and some travellers say it’s one of the most underrated regions in Europe.
Transylvania is famous for its slow pace of life, fairytale villages and natural beauty. Even HRH Prince of Wales fell in love with the region and restored several 400-year-old farmhouses in Viscri, which you will see on the tour.
See some of the best preserved Saxon towns in Romania on the tour, including Sibiu, Brasov and Saschiz. In Sinaia, you’ll marvel at the German renaissance-style palaces of Peleş and Pelişor. While in Sighisoara, be charmed by the cobbled streets and colourful medieval buildings straight out of a storybook.
The Romanian Explorer tour is perfect for Medieval history buffs and nature lovers. On a Cox & King’s small group tour, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to hog the guide as you tour each Saxon fortress-church and crumbling ruin.
Treasures of Peru
‘Treasures of Peru’, an introductory tour of Southern Peru for solo travellers includes the country’s most celebrated sights and is designed to help travellers acclimatise to the altitude. Starting in Lima, explore Peru’s ancient, colonial and scenic wonders over 11 days. Discover Cuzco – the oldest inhabited city in South America – take a train through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and, of course, visit Machu Picchu, perhaps the most breathtaking archaeological site in the world.
Watch condors soar over the high Andean peaks and feel the powerful presence of Inca culture and history that has endured despite centuries of conquest.
Visit the extraordinary floating Uros reed islands on Lake Titicaca on a full-day tour with a home-cooked lunch prepared by a local family. Learn about the Uros people’s unique way of life and how they use reed – a sturdy aquatic grass – to build their whole world.
The vibrant Andean culture is one of the most colourful and friendly in the Americas. But independent solo travel can be daunting. Choosing a Cox & King’s tour will allow you to embrace all of the adventures, without spending any of your holiday time planning where to go or what to do next.
